Seepage is occurring through a porous media shown in the figure. The hydraulic conductivity values (k1, k2, k3) are in m/day.

The seepage discharge (m3/day per m) through the porous media at section PQ is

$\begin{array}{l}\mathrm{Keq}=\frac{{\mathrm H}_1+{\mathrm H}_2+{\mathrm H}_3}{{\displaystyle\frac{{\mathrm H}_1}{{\mathrm K}_1}}+{\displaystyle\frac{{\mathrm H}_2}{{\mathrm K}_2}}+{\displaystyle\frac{{\mathrm H}_3}{{\mathrm K}_3}}}\\\;\;\;\;\;\;=\frac{20+30+10}{{\displaystyle\frac{20}2}+{\displaystyle\frac{30}3}+{\displaystyle\frac{10}1}}=\frac{60}{30}=2\end{array}$

Keq = 2

⇒ q = KiA

$\begin{array}{l}=2\times\left(\frac5{60}\right)\times3\\\Rightarrow\mathrm q=\frac12\end{array}$
